Diversity Advisory Boards
Safeway benefits from the skills, ideas and talents of employees serving on the Diversity Advisory Boards. Each major operating area has an active Diversity Advisory Board which meets on a regular basis. The Mission of Our Diversity Advisory Board is:
- We recognize, celebrate and benefit from the uniqueness of each employee and customer.
- We value, respect and support these differences in our workplace.
- We strive to reflect this diversity in the communities we serve.
Network Groups
- Provides networking, leadership and mentoring opportunities that encourage personal, professional and
organization growth.
- Advises and supports management in becoming the employer of choice through recruitment, development
and deployment of a talented diverse workforce.
Women:
Our mission is to provide a nurturing environment for women at Safeway to develop professional relationships, to enhance professional and personal growth and to better serve Safeway and our communities.
African American:
The Safeway African American Leadership Network's mission is to:
- Provide a safe forum to explore issues facing African American employees,
- Support company initiatives, and
- Improve cultural awareness by promoting:
• The personal and professional growth, leadership, and development of African Americans at Safeway.
• Effective communications and relationships between Safeway and African American employees, consumers,
suppliers and communities.
Asian:
Our mission is to cultivate a work environment that promotes business opportunities and builds educational awareness of Asian cultures by:
- Providing personal & professional growth opportunities to our employees,
- Providing a diverse knowledge base and optimizing product selection with a focus on world class service to our
customers thereby strengthening Safeway consumer and employee loyalty.
Hispanic:
We, the Hispanic Leadership network, believe in promoting awareness, recognition, and the celebration of our rich and diverse Hispanic cultural heritage within Safeway and the Community we serve, by acting as a resource that develops communication, interaction and visibility for our Hispanic employees and customers.

Diversity Communications
Celebrating and understanding the diversity of our employees and customer is important. Safeway provides employees with diversity information through a quarterly diversity bulletin and our unique cultural heritage video series that includes the traditions and foods associated with many cultural events and religious holidays.
